Spaces of communication

December 14-29, 2009

New exhibition within the framework of the program "Actual artists and art practices of 1980-1990 on Ural. Digest" tells about artist Evgeny M. Malakhin (1938-2005) lived in Sverdlovsk / Ekaterinburg and engaging in photography, creating the books, musical-poetic performances, wall painting, and more known under pseudonyms K.Kashkin, B.U.Kashkin, Old man Bukashkin.

Bukashkin is one of symbolic figures of underground art stage of Sverdlovsk. In 1988 he founded society "Picture Maker" and, in his art practice, has developed a new type of work of artist as communicative game practice and arrangement of city space.

Activity of the artist is considered by researchers in different contexts: both naive art, and contemporary art developing language of modernism. So his artworks were represented on rock concerts and academic exhibitions of "book of artist". Being internally holistic, inverted to range of problems of language and communications, externally its art was realized in various forms -- even E.Malakhin has turned in a character of stories about himself.

Documentation of performances of the society "Picture Maker" and various types of books by E.M.Malahina will be exhibited in two halls of Okno gallery. In each of these forms, - whether it is an action with playing on musical instruments, conversations with public, giving small painted boards or hand-made and typographical books, - the special communicative spaces were built, which provoked the spectator to comprehend language he speaks and his ethical values.
